Elly's Dental Work

It has been a very busy week. I must apologize to all those who feel I have fallen off the face of the earth or an even bigger apology to those who expected me to accomplish something and my time got away from me. Trust me, no one wants me to lose too much sleep. It will not be a happy go lucky day. We had to prepare this week to take Elly in to Children's Hospital so she could get her teeth fixed. I have to say the the moments leading up to this event were not very exciting. In fact on the road trip down I realized that I had followed the wrong directions on when she could eat and when all solids and drinks had to stop. I pretty much resolved to cancel the appointment. The whole idea was a little scary. I mean if her teeth turn black and fall out what's the big deal? Would you all judge that I am a bad parent because somewhere on the road I gave up on the whole tooth money making business. Ah but then I realize that she may go 6 years with no front teeth, add that to the scare factors the dentist throws at you like the hundreds you would spend on speech therapy and braces. Might as well spend the thousands now on teeth that are destined to fall out anyways at some point. Well we went and it was difficult because she really wanted to nurse to sleep so I had to reject her. We walked around and she complained until she gave in and crashed. Whew!! Cause in the waiting room all those kids were starving and thirsty and I really felt for them. Elly had the right idea, sleep through the hunger pains. Truly she slept for a long time and finally it was our turn. Our anesthesiologist came in and gave us the run down. She will be knocked out with gas and then they will administer an IV. I walked back with her still asleep in my arms and I laid her down on the table. She woke up opened her eyes and was a little out of it. I whispered in her ear " it's okay, you can go night night...I love you a lot and when you wake up we will go eat with daddy." I gave her a kiss and she was out. It was hard to see her so limp but not as hard as it would have been if she was screaming for me. Well all went well. It was a 3 hour procedure and we walked away with almost no tears at all. She cried a little when she woke up. Then she was a little upset when they removed her IV. It could not have gone any better in my eyes.
