The morning was a slower one then usual. We took our time getting up and headed out to a local soda for food. We are running low on cash. This place is a cash only kind of place. We will make do with what we have. Only got 2.5 more days to go. Once we finished eating it was off to Tenerio National Park in search of the blue waterfall. On the drive we pass some sketchy bridges.
There are dogs everywhere. We haven't seen a big dog yet but lots of little ones. Some are cute and some are friendly others not so much.
You can see Dante in the background about to do something dangerous. The nut!
This is right over a running river. Seconds after I took this photo he fell off. Scared the daylights out of me! He is okay but will have a large bump and swollen area on his arm from trying to catch himself. Boys! Ugh! They are crazies!
On the way we stopped at a soda to get directions. We were a little unsure about where the waterfall is.
We bought some pineapple to snack on. Let me just say this is the best pineapple I have eaten. I am not a big fan of pineapple but here it's so sweet and fresh you really can tell the difference.
Once we arrived we loaded our lunch and hiked it all in. This side of the national park has no maps so we are traveling all on our own. It's an adventure.
The views once you enter the jungle area are amazing.
We were prepared to fend off any attacks that came our way.
We crossed some beautiful running rivers.
at least they had a rope for us to hold onto.
once we found some blue water. (El río celeste catarata).
It is probably one of the most beautiful things I have seen in my lifetime.
Isn't Dante so handsome.
We met a girl there who approached us and kindly shared the information she had gotten from where she is staying locally.
So now we have a drawn map but according to the map we have cross this blue water. Fun! We worked so hard to keep dry.
The boys all took their shoes off and carried them across.
They were more then happy to venture across the waters.
VICTORY!
Well they survived so now its our turn.
now we gotta hike up the other side and do some exploring.
When I say beautiful I mean a word stronger then that but it's not coming off my fingers at the moment.
We had to do a little climbing to get back on the trail.
Last shots of that beautiful water.
Then it started to rain on us. All that work to stay dry and now we are wet for sure
It's okay though we are taking it in stride
We get tired and stop to enjoy the view.
We found a great look out spot on the Guanacaste side.
The clouds were so pretty. This picture doesn't even do the beauty of it all any justice.
We followed the river of blue water.
We found where the two waters meet and the minerals create the blue look. It smells like sulfur very strongly in some areas. (Rotten eggs smell) it's pretty bad at times. Definitely not something I would swim in but still so nice to look at. Sometimes I think this is proof that God has a sense of humor. Your drawn in by The beauty and walk away because of the horrid smell. Ha!
We sent our strongest out as a guinea pig to try things and touch the water. Some areas are very hot and some are very cold.
We entered some questionable areas. So worth it though.
We crossed some scary bridges. It was so awesome!
Some of the bridges had railings ha!
Some were just a log. This is high adventure. You can tell my darling husband was behind this camera today.
We stopped and rested in some beautiful spots
The hike back was hard I won't lie.
I got a blister on my toe and a band aid wouldn't stay on.
Rodd had this great idea to stuff leaves on top. It helped for a little while but soon I was traveling with a flip flop. Just couldn't handle the pain any longer.
We encountered bugs of all sorts. Some large some small some alive some dead. This one got caught in the boiling water side of the river. :( we could eat it. Ha!
It was hard to walk away from the beauty of this area
back to the car we go!
On the drive back the car was running weird so we stopped at the same soda place as before to have more pineapple and grab a drink. It started to pour rain so we waited out the worst part of that rain storm. Took our soda to go with no straw. Just chew the corner off and drink. Only a little weird. I learned a lesson here: if you order a soda it doesn't mean soda it means club soda which is nasty! By the way.
The drive home was 1.5 hours. We had some beautiful views of the Arenal Volcano.
It's always fun listening to the boys joke around. We encountered a dog who wanted to attack the car by lunging at it as we drove by. That's all we need is to hit a dog on this trip. :/ we arrived back to the cabins to an elephant. This is our last night we will miss our towels in animal form.
Today is a travel day. Off to Manuel Antonio national park. Hoping to be on the beach by sunset. But who knows what adventure lies on the road from here to there. It's a 4 hour drive yay!
