Field trip Galore!

My morning started with some very tired girls. After spending the afternoon and evening organizing the girls room and doing a remodel we seem to be lacking in the sleep department. Today we had a field trip to the agua hedionda lagoon in Carlsbad. Not to mention that Mrs.. Veronica asked that we get there by 8:15. Haha! We barely make 8:45 but we put our best effort forward. We made it by 8:35 but we were the first ones (of the parents set to drive) there so all was good. Gabe climbed into bed this morning to share what was on his mind. It's hard being a teenager and dealing with girls emotions, friend emotions and not to mention his own emotions. I love watching him grow and am really trying to enjoy these moments. When they are gone they are gone.
Well off to Carlsbad with my small group of school kids from Elly's classroom. There was so much traffic to Carlsbad the bulk of the group was late to the events. Our first stop was with the birds.
Yup stuffed birds. They were local to the area.
Then it was time to do some origami.
Look it's a birds beak!
The next stop was learning about native plants and their leaves.
The view is amazing.
Elly was given a nature notebook and they got some time to draw some of the plants and their leaves.
Then the group headed on a small hike to identify some of the plants.
Except I didn't come very prepared for hiking. Total fail there..
My favorite part of the fieldtrip was when they got to behave like a migrating bird and follow the course to find out if they survived the migration process. 50% of migrating birds die. :/
They got a little Dizzie while jumping in circles.
Lunch time was where I got to visit with friends. Field trips can be for me too!
We got some pretty cool experiences and classes while there today. Elly visited with a tortoise.
Learned about their shells.
Now she knows what the difference is with a turtle and a tortoise.
Oh my the bearded dragon felt like sandpaper.
Oh and the snake! Still gives me the chills.
We got to learn about a hawk and an owl.
The owl was missing an eye :/ so it was rescued and rehabilitated.
I feel like I learned more today then most. On the drive home we listened to the brain on podcast that covered topics like spiders, bridges and tunnels and why snowflakes all look so different. It was a lot of fun.
My day ended with all my activity day girls coming over for a lesson for Valentine's Day and then a visit to the gym. But we did get some organization in  with the girls room. We are almost done ;).
Can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring.
