and 3rd birthday celebration. It was hard to get our bodies jump started this morning.

Rodd has been working very long hours and sometimes you just really need a day to kill brain cells and enjoy brain numbing activities. Then there is the Free Food concept. Where there is free food you will most likely see our family. Seriously Thanks to Alma and Scott for being so willing to feed my enormous family. We can always use the help. We are always fashionably late but this time is the first time we weren't. We arrived 10-15 minutes later then the evite said but we were still earlier than most guests and did I mention we were starving. Well I figure with the Mexican blood and the Mormon time we are expected to be at least thirty minutes late to every event. Hey it's not my fault blame the culture. It was a very fun celebration. Alma and Scott adopted David and I am sure he will appreciate that gesture as he grows.
Here is what I don't get. Now I have been a leader and even a participant in this activity but it has not helped my understanding grow by any means.
We teach from a very young age to beat on a helpless pinata. Sometimes they are in shapes of our favorite characters. We teach them young to beat on people or things that they LIKE.

here we are beating on Thomas the Tank. I mean really how many times in a childs life will mom and dad stand around cheering on their aggression. Then we run in yelling to stop them from breaking the pinata in hopes that our nose won't get broken in the process. As I shared this concept with my children you can see that the clown found it funny but the mom to be could totally agree. Right Mercedes?:-)

Then the candy comes flying out to the ground and with the right wrestle moves you are guaranteed a bag full of teeth rotting yummies. Yet it never fails, there is always one child who breaks out in tears because they didn't break the pinata or see that it was broken and so didn't run in for the head concussion to gather his dose of goodies so by default the tears fall and then those who are still around feel bad and offer up some goodies from their bags to compensate for how fast the candy came and gone.

all in all this ritual is very odd if we watched from outside eyes.

From the inside though you need those eyes to watch for the candy because if you blink bam you miss it all and then you will end up like me, begging kids to give up theirs in exchange for a lazy chore free afternoon. Sigh*** Dirty house for some chocolate.
Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID!!!

Thanks for a day of craziness and fun times. Count us in next year!!!
